Varagua Caecilian (Gymnopis multiplicata)

- family Caeciliidae. max length of 50 cm (1.7 ft). subterranean, it is found in forested habitats of Central America. the reduced eye is not visible, as it is covered with skin and bone. they have small sensory tentacles on the face, that aid in both chemoreception (smell/taste) and tactile detection. skin is segmented/ringed, secretes copious slime, and has tiny sub-dermal scales in the rings. carnivorous, assumed to feed on invertebrates and small vertebrates.
